The Society of Inquiry and Literature on the Afterlife Mysteries (SILAMYS) is an educational, non-for-profit, independent endeavour to preserve and extend knowledge on the issue of survival to bodily death as evidenced by mediumship, deathbed visions, apparitions, hauntings, poltergeists, reincarnation studies, near-death experiences and spontaneous and instrumental after-death communications.
SILAMYS collects, analyzes, organizes, reviews and provides free access, when possible, to parts of the enormous textual body amassed in the last 170 years by scientists, scholars and ordinary men and women who time and again experienced and witnessed wonders they were supposed to not be experiencing nor witnessing. First-hand testimonies that should be as significant today, for all of us, as they were in the yesteryear for those who inquired enough.
With such goal in mind, two major tools have been launched from this website: the SILAMYS Free Library and the SILAMYS Free Bulletin. Just click on the names if you’d like to learn more.
SILAMYS is not associated with any group or institution, but we’d like to acknowledge the vital and pioneering role played by the Society for Psychical Research (SPR) in dispelling much fog and attesting much truth since its foundation in London in 1882. Also, the SPR launched few years ago the Psi Encyclopedia, an unvaluable source of knowledge always in progress with excellent contributions made by a wide range of researchers and scholars.
Another indispensable and ongoing project is the online library of the International Association for the Preservation of Spiritualist and Occult Periodicals (IAPSOP), the largest database of its kind which gives free access in PDF format to a huge amount of journals, annals, bulletins and books ranging from the 16th century to the 1960s, and specially rich in 19th century and early 20th literature, including many “classics” on Spiritualism and psychical research.
However, while the SPR and IAPSOP also host much literature devoted to free-of-discarnate-agency phenomena like remote viewing, telepathy, telekinesis, mesmerism, alchemy, magic and others, it is the intention of SILAMYS to deal exclusively with matters related to survival after death, psychical research (in the yesteryear acception) and spirit manifestations in all their forms.
